Purpose-Built Technology

Work with custom engineering software developed in-house — designed to eliminate tedious manual work and let you focus on actual engineering. It's a genuine point of difference for the team.

Broad Project Variety

You'll work across residential, commercial, and industrial projects — sheds, patios, framing, footings, and certification — across every Australian state. No two days are the same.

Real Career Growth

We've grown from one to eleven engineers in a decade — and we're not slowing down. As the company grows, career progression opportunities are genuine and frequent. We promote from within.

Genuine Team Culture

We're a team of eleven who actually enjoy working together. We take the engineering seriously and the workplace culture even more so — collaborative, supportive, and not hierarchical.

Structural Engineer

Adelaide, SA (On-site) Full-Time 3+ Years Experience Australian Experience Required

About the Role

Upright Engineering is growing and we're looking for an experienced structural engineer to join our Adelaide team. With a decade of consistent growth, a team of 11 engineers, and purpose-built engineering software, this is a great opportunity to join a firm that approaches structural engineering a little differently.

You'll work across a broad range of structural engineering projects — from residential shed and outbuilding certification to commercial framing design and other structures — using our custom-built engineering platform.

We're a team that works closely together, communicates openly, and cares about quality. If you're looking for a place where your engineering work is valued and your career can genuinely progress — this is it.

What You'll Do

  • Perform structural analysis and design across residential, commercial, and industrial project types
  • Prepare engineering designs, structural drawings, and certification documentation
  • Review and certify structural designs to ensure compliance with NCC and relevant Australian Standards (AS 4600, AS 4100, AS 1720, etc)
  • Communicate directly with clients throughout the project lifecycle — taking briefs, providing updates, and responding to queries
  • Design footing systems for a range of soil conditions and structure types
  • Work with our custom engineering software platform to deliver projects efficiently
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation in our project management systems

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from a recognised university
  • Minimum 3 years of structural engineering experience working in Australia
  • Solid working knowledge of the NCC, AS 4100, AS 4600, AS 2870, AS 3600
  • Knowledge of wind loading to AS/NZS 1170 and wind classification assessment
  • Experience with structural analysis software (e.g., Strand7, Space Gass, Microstran, or similar)
  • Experience with portal frame design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills — we are a client-facing team
  • Right to work in Australia (Australian citizen, permanent resident, or appropriate visa holder)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering quality and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Advantageous (Not Essential)

  • RPEQ registration or other state-based registration
  • Chartered Engineers Australia status, or working towards it
  • Experience in shed engineering or outbuilding certification
  • Experience working with volume clients (manufacturers, suppliers)
  • Familiarity with both hot-rolled and cold-formed structural steel design
